About my service
- All counselling conversations are confidential unless I have concerns for your safety and that of others.
- I respect the dignity and values of each person’s culture and beliefs.
- I assist people with ways of living that are more consistent with their own hopes and values.
What is Counselling?
Counselling is a safe place where you can identify and resolve an issue in an atmosphere of trust, respect and empathy. It is an interactive process where you work with the counsellor to resolve specific social, cultural and emotional issues in a holistic way. The issues may include coping with a crisis, relationship issues, decision making, personal awareness, dealing with feelings, thoughts, emotions and perceptions.
“We cannot change the wind but we can adjust our sails”
Counselling also helps to find ways of managing situations that cannot be changed.
The length of time that a person requires counselling depends on the person and the situation. This can be discussed during the first session. Some people find that three or four sessions are sufficient to work through an issue while for others it may take longer.
A weekly appointment is preferable.
I use a number of counselling models but have strengths in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Strengths based and Person Centered. I use what best suits you and the difficulty presenting.
What is Supervision?
All counsellors (including myself) and employees from other professions, attend Supervision on a regular basis in order to continue developing their professional practice and personal growth.
It is an opportunity to be guided and supported as you attempt to meet certain organizational, professional and personal objectives.
Some of those objectives may be about:
- professional development
- personal support
This helps ensure that quality service is being practiced and work related stress is managed. Supervision can be helpful for people working with people, such as those in the medical profession, social services (e.g. social workers, community workers) clergy, or people who are in leadership positions.
Supervision may take place fortnightly, monthly or whatever suits your situation. I am happy to have an introductory meeting in order to see if a supervision relationship would work for both of us.
